The fighting between the Yemeni government and northern rebels continue in Saa’da governorate – in the north of the country. Thousands of civilians are scrambling to get away from the fighting and to get to places where they can be assisted. One such area where these displaced are settling is in Ad Dhaher district in the south west of Saa’da governorate. Families are living under trees and on the side of the road, where ever they can. There are reportedly around 1200 displaced families (about 8 500 people) in the district with numbers growing everyday as fighting continues. International Community Services (ICS) started distributing food aid provided by ICS and CARE International to those affected by this crisis on May 18th as part of a month long effort to assist IDPs in this area. Despite involvement by numerous international agencies in the governorate the need for assistance remains great, especially in those isolated areas where aid has not reached to. |
